Indonesia’s 260 million people are dispersed across 17,000 islands. With such geographical challenges, those living on remote-islands simply cannot access to healthcare. This project began in 2009 when Dr. Lie sold his home and purchased a small, 6x20m wooden boat with a single operating room. He and his team at doctorSHARE have since performed over 1000 surgical operations and 15,000 medical treatments.

PT MASA had teamed up with doctorSHARE and donated a 45x20m barge to expand our operations and reach as many people as possible. Our first 6-month trip will take place in Maluku Tengarra Barat, where infant mortality is 6/100, nearly a third of children are malnourished, and over a third of women have pregnancy complications. There is only 1 hospital, 1 road, no electricity or running water, and no surgeon.

Your donation will not go to waste. Dr. Lie and doctorshare surgeons work incredibly hard! In Papua, they hiked 13 hours up a mountain with 30 kilo packs full of medical supplies to reach remote villages that have NEVER seen a modern doctor. They live along side locals without running water or electricity. On average, their team of 8 doctors will complete 27 surgeries each day.
